Is this a good thing? It may be a sign of the apocalypse.

, the transaction value is $4.05 billion

Ms. Kennedy will serve as executive producer on new Star Wars feature films, with George Lucas serving as creative consultant. Star Wars Episode 7 is targeted for release in 2015, with more feature films expected to continue the Star Wars saga and grow the franchise well into the future.

Well, PIXAR still kicks ass under Disney, and the latest MARVEL movies have all been pretty good, although I liked XMEN: First Class way better than Avengers. I guess George can't do 'em forever, and who knows, maybe they'll be able to do Star Wars better, because I thought that while there were decent actors in the prequels, the directing could have been better.

My initial reaction is negative, but that's the skeptic in me. I'll take a "wait and see" approach until their first new product comes out.

Definitely wait and see, but I don't think it will be bad. Disney seems to understand that different markets/business units need different things. Pony up the cash, then stay out of the way of the creative people. Collect your returns.

I'm actually more curious what Lucas will do now that he's out from under the shadow of Star Wars. For better or worse, it railroaded his career once Episode IV was a such a box office smash.

My guess? As little as he has to, and lay low.

I spoke with George this evening and expressed your insights and concerns. He said "That he IS going to lay low, or was it lay slow? Whatever, he also mentioned that you could take your opinions and R2D2 and fuck yourselves with them." I thought that was a litlle harsh, but he said "fuck em all, I got da money."

I was 10 when star wars was released and the last movie my dad took me to see. The openning was and still is (when on the big screen) awesome.

The last three can suck on my nuts for all I care, along with the re-releases of the first and only three real start wars movies.
